Jon Mitguard - The founder of Aurora Building Performance(ABP). He is a devotee to fine building and is interested in finding that line where we at least approach sustainability while building quality living spaces.
Graduated from Sonoma State University in 1990 with a degree in Environmental Studies. This highly regarded program emphasized energy management and design, and was a fine launching pad to get into the energy consulting field. He worked for ten years at Energy Calc Co a Title 24 consultancy in San Rafael, CA.
This gave experience in various areas. Where the idea is to conserve energy there are many parallel goals like satisfying the aesthetic of the ultimate dweller in the building, and addressing the concerns of building officials. Jon understands aesthetic concerns as he built fine furniture for many years and in fact put himself through school doing so. In that line, quality is the key and he brings that principle to ABP. Gaining Title 24 compliance sometimes required a delicate balance of design, budget, and code knowledge all of which he is keenly aware.
He also has experience doing wind resource analysis for a group of Meteorologists that consulted to wind energy developers. In this capacity it was clear that quality again was paramount as the data ultimately is used to make very capitol intensive decisions.
